Abstract
Objective: The effect of psychological processes in diseases such as urticaria, which are called neurodermatological diseases, is a matter of interest. The aim of our study is to determine the rates of transdiagnostic processes such as worrying, rumination, and experiential avoidance (psychological rigidity) in patients with chronic urticaria and to investigate their effects on quality of life.

Methods: Sixty-two patients diagnosed with chronic spontaneous urticaria and 59 healthy controls were included in the study. Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II), Ruminative Thought Style Questionnaire (RTSQ), and Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) scales were applied to all participants, and the Chronic Urticaria Quality of Life Questionnaire (CU-Q2oL) was applied to the chronic urticaria group.

Results: It was found that the AAQ-II scores of the patient group were statistically higher than the healthy volunteer group, indicating lower psychological flexibility. It has been observed that the quality of life is low in urticaria patients with high levels of psychological rigidity, worry, and rumination. When the patient groups were compared in terms of omalizumab use, it was found that those who use omalizumab had lower rumination scores than those who don't.

Conclusion: These findings suggest that psychological processes may be relevant in chronic urticaria. Future studies should examine whether psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy interventions targeting psychological rigidity, worry, and rumination improve quality of life in these patients.

Key words: Chronic spontaneous urticaria, Psychological flexibility, Quality of life, Rumination, Worry
